MoneyTime includes a fun money management game

Learning through play

The financial literacy lessons are combined with a fun money management game which maximizes students’ engagement and enjoyment.

They earn virtual money for correct answers, which they can spend in-game by purchasing, saving, investing or donating. These decisions simulate real life decisions & help students understand the impact of their choices. They learn from trial & error without risk or fear of failure.

MoneyTime has 13 financial literacy lessons for students to complete with their parent

Built-in parent engagement

In addition to the core and extension classroom lessons, there are 13 lessons for students to complete with their parent or guardian. These are optional but highly recommended as they enable students to put their learning into their own life’s context.

Parents love that their child is learning how to be smart with money, and are often surprised at their child’s level of understanding of the personal finance topics gained from the MoneyTime program.

MoneyTime & the American high school curriculum

Teacher teaching MoneyTime middle school curriculum

MoneyTime’s content contains equal amounts of literacy (reading, vocabulary, and comprehension), math and social education.

Class fits include: Math, Social Studies, Economics, Business, Enterprise, Career Readiness, CTE, Family and Consumer Science, and Advisory block.

MoneyTime goes beyond the financial literacy standards & requirements set out in most education department curriculum. It covers topics students should know about eg resumes, job applications, renting vs. buying, mortgages, property investment, insurance & warranties.

School districts typically follow the Common Core Standards created and promoted by the Department of Education or those of their own State Education Department.

In both instances the financial literacy standards typically referred to are:

  • Council For Economic Education’s (CEE) National Standards for Financial Literacy

  • Jump$tart Coalition’s National Standards for K-12 Personal Finance Education.

  • National Curriculum Standards for Social Studies

MoneyTime’s content incorporates the majority of curriculum standards in each of these & most state academic standards.

MoneyTime is super easy to use. My highlights were seeing the kids get excited when I would walk into their class and it was MoneyTime. The kids are really intrigued and they enjoy the program. The topics are relatable to their age and gets their mind going on achievable things that they can accomplish and pursue while still being a child.
