MoneyTime interclass financial literacy competition goes down to the wire
11 December 2025
Congratulations to Team Toru at Peachgrove Intermediate in Hamilton who took out first place. This was remarkable in that not only was this the second year in a row they have won the competition, but their average quiz score of 93% was the highest ever.
The competition was intense, with Team Toru only just managing to edge out Ka Pai 2025 class from Glen Eden Intermediate School in Auckland. Glen Eden also had Room 11, 2025 taking out 3rd place. This is the third year running the school has had classes finishing in the top 4.
Prem Rauf, Team Toru’s teacher says: “We really enjoyed doing the MoneyTime program. It is a fun and rewarding way to learn about financial literacy. Students always pestered us, “ When are you unlocking the next module?” This tells me as a teacher that they really enjoy doing it. There is also a chance for students competing against each other in the class to see who earns the most money. A great way to keep the motivation going. I would love to continue this online program again next year and am intending to invite the rest of the school to join us. Thank you to the organisers for this brilliant opportunity!
Suwaibah Zaman, a year 7 pupil in Team Toru says “MoneyTime made learning about money entertaining and engaging, which is why I thoroughly enjoyed it. I especially appreciated the tasks where we had to think about real-life problems, including budgeting, saving, and making wise spending selections. It was satisfying to see our points add up and watch our class go ahead on the leaderboard. It was even more exciting when our class came first. It felt great knowing that all our hard work helped us get to the top.”
